There are dozens of reasons why people schedule mold inspections: as a preventative measure, to address obvious mold in the home, or to answer that nagging feeling in the back of your mind that something doesn't quite seem right. Regardless of the reason, there's one question that we almost always get asked:
"How should I prepare?"
"What do I have to do before you come?"
Below are just a few basic things you can do to prepare for the inspection team, and help the process to move along as quickly as possible.
Especially if there's a bad smell, or if you pride yourself in being a good hostess, you're going to have a temptation to keep windows and door open, ventilators and purifiers going full speed, and maybe a candle or two. You need to resist this temptation. To make sure that the tests during the inspection are accurate, you're going to want to showcase the problem, not cover it up as good as possible. Avoid cleaning with strong chemicals and doing things to ventilate/circulate the air to get the most accurate inspection results.
However, for those who are itching to keep things clean, there are a few things you can do. Clear out as much as you can from high-risk areas, including closets, cabinets, underneath sinks, bathrooms, attics, and basements. Make sure there are clear walkways and access to areas that you've noticed to be the most problematic.
Finally, while these aren't as important as the first two, we have two suggestions for you:
